Midwest Canine Assistance, Inc. - KSDS Guide and Service Dogs

Dogs and training are provided at no cost to the individual. Located on US Highway 36 in Washington, Kansas, KSDS provides canine assistance in two areas of service.

GUIDE DOGS
These specially trained dogs provide the eyes to those individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
+ Guide dog training is 24 days for blind and visually impaired individuals.
+ During this training time, students will stay in one of the two motels conveniently located to KSDS. The expense of the stay is that of the students.

SERVICE DOGS
These assistance dogs are used by physically disabled persons. These dogs can be trained to help pull the wheelchair, retrieve dropped articles, and help with doors.
+ Service dog training is 13 days for physically disabled individuals.
+ During this training time, students will stay in one of the two motels conveniently located to KSDS. The expense of the stay is that of the students.

APPLICATIONS FOR CANINE ASSISTANCE
To begin the process of receiving an assistance dog, the blind or disabled person or the care facility must first request an application. After the application is completed, an interview will be scheduled at KSDS.
Upon selection for canine assistance, the individual will spend the determined amount of time at the facility training with the dog matched to him or her.
Guide dog training is 24 days. Service dog training is 13 days. During the training days, students stay in one of the two motels located conveniently close to KSDS. Expenses of the stay are the responsibility of each student.

KSDS is a member in good standing of Assistance Dogs International
and adheres to the minimum standards of training requirements and ethics set forth by ADI.
