The Role of Workplace Accommodations in the Employment of People with Disabilities
Authors: Priyanka Anand and Purvi Sevak
This report, published in the IZA Journal of Labor Policy, Volume 6 no. 12, was released October 26, 2017. The report uses data from the 2015 Survey of Disability and Employment.
Specifically, the report looked at individuals who applied for vocational rehabilitation in three U.S. States. The report makes three important key findings:
1) At least one third of nonworking people with disabilities reported employment barriers that could be addressed by workplace accommodations
2) Receipt of some accommodations is positively correlated with continued employment
3) People who in poor health or have physical disabilities were less likely to have received accommodations in their current or most recent job.
