National Goals in Research, Practice and Policy for and with People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
This webpage is a summary of the National Goals in Research, Practice and Policy for and with People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities conference that was held in Washington DC in 2015.
This conference was first held in 2005, then reconvened periodically to review the current state of the knowledge and select new goals for the coming decade. This web page is organized according to the ten focus areas discussed at the conference:
-Health and Wellness
-Long Term Supports and Services
-Self-Determination and Self-Advocacy
Click on the "Web Links" tab above to visit the webpage now. For each of these focus areas there are links to a two-page issue brief, and a scholarly article outlining the issues that were discussed at the conference. These both can be downloaded as PDFs. There are also links to two extended video clips, one with a professional explaining the issues of the day in that focus area, and another featuring a self-advocate/person with a disability sharing a story and/or their perspective on the importance of the focus area.
There was also a book that summarized each of these areas, and the results of the discussion at the conference.
