Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology (PEAT)
The Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology (PEAT) is a resource center that will bring together employers, technology developers, accessibility thought leaders, policy makers and consumers around the topic of accessible technology and employment.
• PEAT’s overall goal is to “get a seat at the table” for accessible technology from the start, so that it becomes a part of everyday business practices and technology development, and not an expensive or inconvenient afterthought.
• The PEAT website will be the initiative's central hub, connecting employers, the technology industry, and public and private sector partners to the information and interactive resources they need to implement and promote inclusive technology practices.
• The PEAT team will engage in education and outreach activities to promote useful tools and resources that help employers and the technology industry adopt accessible technology as part of everyday business practice, for the benefit of all workers.
• PEAT will bring together relevant partners, including private employers, public entities, and technology companies to identify trends, formulate recommendations and collaborate on efforts related to accessible workplace technology issues.
PEAT is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and is managed by RESNA, the Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive Technology Society of North America, with partners Inclusive Technologies, the Burton Blatt Institute, and Concepts, Inc.
PEAT will launch publicly in early 2014.
