People First of Wisconsin

People First of Wisconsin helps people with disabilities throughout the state to speak up for themselves, and to speak up for those who can't speak for themselves. This organization also provides opportunities and education to help people with disabilities in Wisconsin figure out what they want to do with their lives, and how they can make their dreams come true.

Some Important Facts About People First Wisconsin:

People First Wisconsin is a statewide, grassroots, cross-disability advocacy organization run by and for people with disabilities. Voting membership is open to anyone with a disability. Non-voting membership is also open to persons without disabilities who want to support the organization. The Board of Directors includes 11 members, representing 19 different regions of the state. In addition to voting members, Board meetings attract an average of 20-30 additional people from all over the state, including self-advocates and a team of 7 advisors appointed by the board.

Some Projects & Activities People First of Wisconsin is Working On:

Self-advocacy training workshops for high school students.
Outreach to employers on the benefits of hiring people with disabilities.
On The Move, the statewide self-advocacy newsletter, published 3 times a year.
Outreach and suport to new and existing self-advocacy groups.
Creating a Guide to all self-advocacy groups in Wisconsin.
