Supportive Care in the Congregation: Providing a congregational network of care for persons with significant disabilities
Authors: Dean A. Preheim-Bartel, Aldred H. Neufeldt, Paul D. Leichty and Christine J. Guth
How can congregations offer supportive care for members with significant disabilities and their families? This is the subject of an 89-page book to help churches organize Supportive Care Groups. It was published jointly by Mennonite Publishing Network and Anabaptist Disabilities Network.
The book is titled Supportive Care in the Congregation: Providing a Congregational Network of Care for Persons with Significant Disabilities. It is a thorough revision and update of earlier versions. The authors are Dean Preheim-Bartel, Aldred Neufeldt, Paul Leichty, and Christine Guth.
Some reflections from co-author Christine Guth:
"I have experienced firsthand the profound blessing of congregational supportive care for living with the disabilities in my family," said Guth, who currently serves as program director for Anabaptist Disabilities Network. "Likewise, I have experienced firsthand the nightmare of having little or no support network for agonizing struggles in our family."
A companion book, After We're Gone, describes estate planning for families that include persons with disabilities. It was also released recently.
