This guide offers seven detailed and step-wise chapters on assisting an individual with Autism in transition planning, it is downloadable as a PDF under the "web links" tab above. Though written to parents/guardians, it serves as a helpful tool for service providers, teachers, or others with interest in transition planning for those with Autism. The topics of the first three chapters are:

- Agency Help/Legal Information - The first chapter discusses federal, state, and local government agencies that can assist families with transition, as well as the federal laws that protect student rights during the transition process.
- Transition Planning - The second chapter provides information about how to create a comprehensive transition plan.
- Student Centered Transition Planning - The third chapter discusses how to assure a transition is based on the student's dreams and goals.

The next three chapters provide specific information on the options available to adults with autism, and the kinds of planning that need to happen in high school in order to access them. The topical chapters include:
- Vocation and Employment
- Post-Secondary Education
- Life Skills

The final chapter is entitled "looking ahead." It includes ideas about how to set up a "life style plan" for life as an adult, as well as some legal and financial planning information.


Creation of this guide was a combined effort between Danya International, Organization for Autism Research (OAR), and Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center (SARRC), the Life Journey Through Autism: A Guide for Transition to Adulthood was produced in 2006.
