Reuben Lindh Family Services

 Full Description:
Reuben Lindh's Parenting Program started in 1977 to address the needs of mothers identified as having cognitive, learning and/or developmental disabilities. Participants in the program must have a child under five years of age. The service area of the parenting program is an inner city neighborhood with a diverse population. Reuben Lindh strives to have a culturally diverse staff in order to provide culturally relevant services to the parents and families it supports. The parenting program strives to provide a warm, nurturing environment to promote parenting growth; to incraese community connections for families; to promote parent and child attachment; and to model appropriate parenting practices. The parenting program uses a variety of services to accomplish these goals; in-center parent groups, home visiting, mental health services, occupational therapy, musical therapy and speech therapy consultations, transportation to and from the program, child care, and meals. A companion GED program is also offered.

The Parenting Program's educational component addresses topics such as: Child development, behavior management, self-esteem, nutrition, health care, relationship building, sexuality, cooking, budgeting, time management and parent/child interaction.
