Victims of Crime with Disabilities Resource Guide
|
|
The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) developed this site in partnership with the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) and the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) at the University of Wyoming. The Victims of Crime with Disabilities Resource Guide is a comprehensive online, information service focused on increasing the accessibility of information and resources on this topic.
One of the key functions of the Resource Guide is to make information about products and services easy to find and access. To do this, an online “Resources Database” was developed. It provides extensive information including hundreds of resources on violence against women with disabilities, identifying abuse, interviewing techniques, serving individuals with cognitive impairments, communication issues, and making services and facilities accessible. The database has a variety of search and display options, making it a powerful tool for professionals working in this area.
Also with a growing interest and concern for this topic, it is critical that service providers have access to conferences, trainings, workshops, and other professional development activities focused on ending crimes against people with disabilities. The “Online Calendar” provides this information. Details about upcoming events, calls for papers, and award deadlines are tracked down and added to the calendar every week. Visitors can browse by month or conduct a search to find specific events. Users can even search by state to find activities in their particular geographic area.
To help organizations quickly locate financial support for their activities, the Resource Guide also provides a “Funding Opportunities” service which lists current grants, foundations, and other financial programs. Each listing includes the amount of available funds, eligibility requirements, submission deadline, contact details, and descriptive information about each opportunity.
Finally, to keep current, visitors to the Resource Guide web site can also read important notices and announcements through the “News” link on the homepage. They also have the opportunity to participate in a “Threaded Discussion”. Through this service, professionals can post their own questions or statements on specific topics or respond to postings contributed by others working on similar issues.
