Different Moms

 Full Description:
"Different Moms" is a compassionate portrait of three families that shows the challenges parents with mental retardation face when raising their families ù and the odds they overcome to bring up healthy, happy children. This hour-long documentary portrays three families in very different circumstances. The first, a married couple, have two young children and are struggling to learn better parenting skills with the help of a support worker and parenting pogram, while worrying that their children will soon surpass them in ability. The second family is headed by a woman with more significant limitations who is supported by an extended family and support workers. The third parent is a woman who raised her children on her own with some support from her extended family. All of the parents face barriers caused by attitudes about their ability to parent, as well as from the lack of services for parents with disabilities. The video comes with a guide for getting involved.
