 Full Description:
Since autism is usually diagnosed at an earlier age, it seems most of the books on the subject focus on information about recognizing and handling the disorder at the elementary school level. But what happens when these children reach their teen years? What new set of challenges do they and their parents face? Those are the questions that "Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum" attempts to answer.

Author Chantal Sicile-Kira has been involved with autism spectrum disorders for almost twenty years, she also hosts a radio show "The Real World of Autism", and is the founder of "Autism: Making a Difference". She brings both her personal and professional experience with autism spectrum disorders to this book.

The book is organized into six chapters, chronologically detailing life as an adolescent with autism, from a general overview through puberty, middle and high school, transitions to life after high school, and a conclusion of general therapies and strategies for adolescents on the autism spectrum. A wide range of topics are addressed, such as suggestions for parents dealing with the stress of raising a special-needs child, family life, growth and development, and advocating for appropriate school and therapy programs.

The book offers many resource citations and an extensive bibliography.
