This web-based article reviews the rights of people with mental illness and how they are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Click on the web links above to go to the full article. The article reviews rights according to the main Titles of the ADA and explains a few other federal laws that protect people with disabilities.

The article then uses employment as a lens to further explain how the ADA can help protect the rights of people with mental health diagnoses. Here are some helpful examples of reasonable employment accommodations offered at the end of the article:
- Providing self-paced workloads and flexible hours
- Modifying job responsibilities
- Allowing leave (paid or unpaid) during periods of hospitalization or incapacity
- Assigning a supportive and understanding supervisor
- Modifying work hours to allow people to attend appointments with their psychiatrist
- Providing easy access to supervision and supports in the workplace
- Providing frequent guidance and feedback about job performance
