The Dollar General Adult Literacy Grants program awards funding to nonprofit organizations that provide direct service to adults in need of literacy assistance.

Details:
The Dollar General Adult Literacy Grants program awards funding to nonprofit organizations that provide direct service to adults in need of literacy assistance. For fiscal year 2008, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation will award a minimum of $1.5 million in total grants through its annual Request for Proposals process to qualifying nonprofit adult literacy providers.

To be eligible, organizations must provide assistance in one of the following instructional areas: adult basic education; general education diploma preparation; or English for speakers of other languages.

Proposals will be considered from eligible tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations with a minimum of two years experience providing adult education. Applicant organizations must provide direct literacy-based programs and services to adults in one or more of the thirty-five states where Dollar General stores are located; be located within twenty miles of a Dollar General store (please visit the store locator section of the Dollar General Web site: www.dollargeneral.com; not have received funding from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for the past two years; and have met all reporting requirements from previous Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants.
